Krishna lifts Govardhan Hill

Krishna encouraged the residents of Braj to honor Govardhan Hill, the cows and the land that sustained their daily life. Indra, angered by the change in worship, sent relentless storms.

Krishna lifted Govardhan like an umbrella. For seven days, families, cows and animals stood together beneath the hill while he held it effortlessly.

Indra eventually recognized his pride and the storm ended. The episode is remembered through Govardhan Puja and the abundant food offering called Annakut.
